Johnny Appleseed

Apples...apples...apples. The apartment is filled with apples! Unfortunately I haven't been able to consume them fast enough which meant recipe experimentation. Hey, there has to be a first time for everything! After doing a bit of research (aka recipe surfing during class) I learned the technique for applesauce. It was actually very simple!

I took 15 good-lookin' apples and scrubbed them clean!

Then I chopped them all up and stuck them in a pot.

Look at this mother of apples!! I remember picking it because it hardly fit in the bag!

To the pot, I added about half as much water as there was apples and brought it to a boil over medium-high heat. Then I reduced the heat and let the apples simmer for 10-15 minutes.

Next, I strained the apples...and then stuck them in the blender!

Finally, I poured the mixture back into the pot and added 2 Tbsp lemon juice and cinnamon to taste (probably 1 1/2 Tbsp) and let it come to a boil again.

Look how much it made! 1500mL of applesauce...for the price of nothing (literally!!)

Can't wait to try this tomorrow :)

  2. I know! The most "time intensive" part was peeling and chopping the apples but the rest was very straightforward. I love using applesauce in brownies :).

  3. Do we have a recipe for the applesauce brownies? I'd also like to reiterate that I <3 your blog. LOVE describes how I feel about you and your blogging endeavours. :)
Also, due to the unfortunate reality that my computer is, in fact, stupid, I haven't been able to post to your blog for quite some time. But I have been reading it. And now I've discovered that if I post "anonymously" my comments will actually show up. Yeehaw!

  5. Haha...I was wondering who the anonymous poster was ;). And I will indeed post the applesauce brownie recipe. I'll probably be making them tomorrow as a destresser and will write about it then. So glad you're able to post again!
