Embracing my inner gamer

I am not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination. While my two older sisters bond over games like DOMO, Jade Dynasty, and Eden Eternal, I am quite content baking, cross stitching, or reading a good book *darn it, I am an old woman at heart!!*. In fact the closest I've ever come to gaming was when I did workouts on the Wii fit. Yes, I realize that is a far cry from the real thing. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the complexity of games like Final Fantasy and Assassins Creed...but they just aren't for me.

However, everything changed when my sisters bought Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Nintendo Wii. I've played this game before with friends and generally enjoy it, but what I didn't realize is there is an action game within it called The Subspace Emissary. Once I started I was hooked. HOOKED!! The official website describes it best:

The adventure mode [also] emphasizes character development. You'll see many famous characters persevering under the weight of their personal histories, shouldering their unique burdens...It's really something you won't see anywhere else. With so many wonderful characters appearing together, it's like a dream action game.

So after logging 20+ hours into this game over the summer, me and my sister are officially 99% done. The only problem? We have one more character to defeat:

Ohhh Wolf. He's a bad boy. Tough as nails. And everytime we think we have the upper hand on him, he delivers a fatal blow that sends us flying across the screen.

It makes us sad...

And angry...

But we keep our hopes up because we know that someday we will enter that red door and exit victorious!

I actually never realized how fun a video game could be (in moderation, of course). Me and my sister have had so many good laughs and have truly shared an "adventure" together. It will probably be a while before I get intense with a game again but in the meantime I have no regrets about embracing my inner gamer :).

  2. That looks like a blast! I'm dreadful bad at video games, I get my booty kicked at Mario Kart by my roommate. Haha! Good luck defeating the wolf!

  3. Ahhh, Sonic the Hedgehog was the best! I remember going to Zellers as a child and playing the game with my sisters while my parents did their shopping!
